The 250 seats of the Marquis ballroom in Times Square in New York were all filled for the Pentawards 2011 ceremony which was sold out!
The winners came from Australia, Taiwan, Greece, Brazil. Others came from Argentina, Japan, Israel, Korea. From China, across Europe, the United States of America, Canada... in all, more than 25countries were represented at this awards ceremony for the best packaging in the world, which couldn't have been more international.
Jack Vogler, who worked alongside Walter Landor, was Master of Ceremonies. Stan Church (Wallace Church New York) gave an emotional testimony about the importance for designers of winning aPentawards and the need for the quality of their work to be known around the world.
Gérard Caron, President of the Pentawards jury then officially declared the ceremony open. It was 7 p.m. on September 29, 2011.
As their names and creations were called, the winners came on stage to receive their bronze, silver and gold trophies. 5 Platinum Pentawards were given to the best creations of the year in each ofPentawards' five broad categories: Beverages, Food, Body, Other Markets and Luxury.
Mary Lewis and Coca-Cola
Two special Pentawards were awarded on the initiative of Pentawards' founders, Jean Jacques and Brigitte Evrard.
The first to Mary Lewis for her whole career and her highly creative and innovative contribution to packaging design.
The second to the legendary bottle of Coca-Cola which, for more than a century, has risen to cult status and has been able to reinvent itself continually while maintaining its original DNA.

Special prizes were awarded by the sponsors of Pentawards. Avery Dennison gave a prize to the best creation in the wine and spirits categories (Brandever, Canada) as well as to the best design in the Self Promotion category (Stranger & Stranger, UK).
Sleever International, sponsor of the Limited Editions categories, awarded their special prize to Webb Vlam, UK for Bombay Sapphire 250th anniversary. Luxepack offered a booth at the ShanghaiLuxury Platinum Pentawards (Harry Allen Design, United Kingdom) and EskoArtwork gave software to the winner of the Best of The Show, the Nine agency from Sweden.
Each of these prizes is worth approximately € 5,000!
It is the bottle of Ramlösa mineral water (Carlsberg) created by the Nine agency in Sweden which won the prestigious and unique Diamond Pentawards. Carlsberg and Nine, as client and agent, were represented by four elegant young Swedish women in the grand finale of the Pentawards 2011 ceremony.

The moment arrived for cocktails and buffet on the upper terrace of the Marriott Marquis with a breathtaking view over the lights of Times Square, in the heart of the city that never sleeps.
Sleever International and Moët & Chandon generously gave the champagne, not just any champagne since it was Ice Impérial, superbly presented "on the rocks" in white glasses.
An unforgettable evening for all participants, from many nationalities and languages, who exchanged impressions, business cards and promises to meet up again. They were also able to converse with journalists, buy "the package design book" at the Taschen booth, and enjoy sushi, mini burgers, French cheese and pastries.
Rendez-vous is given to the profession for next year's Pentawards... in Paris !
